The STA International Solidarity Committee has tickets to CoDevelopment Canada’s Fall Online Fundraiser “From the Classroom to the Streets: Spotlight on Teachers’ Movements in the Andes” on Saturday, October 16 at 4pm. If you would like to attend, fill out this form by Monday, October 11, 2021 to enter a draw for a virtual seat.

This event focuses on the role of teachers’ organizations in Colombian and Peruvian social movements.
Teachers are involved in momentous events in both countries. In June, Peruvians elected a rural teacher activist as the country’s president, while the Colombian Teachers’ Federation played a key role in the National General Strike that shook the country in May and June this year.

At this event CoDevelopment Canada’s teacher partners will outline the role of their organizations in the struggle for social justice in the region. Presentations will be interspersed with musical and cultural interludes.

Special guests include:

  • Rosa María Leyzaquia, Education Workers’ Union of Peru (SUTEP)
  • Jose Hidalgo Restrepo and Luis Edgardo Salazar, Federation of Colombian Education Workers (FECODE)
  • “Somos Trio,” a teacher string band from Nariño, Colombia.

If you would like to attend this inspiring event, please fill out this form by Monday, October 11, 2021 to enter a draw for a virtual seat.
