• Applying for Sick Leave

    Sick leave is a guaranteed right. It does not require prior approval.

    If you are sick, call subfinder and book a TOC for the portion of time you are likely to be absent. If it is indeterminate, then use your best judgment. For longer term absences the Board may request medical evidence to support the continuation of your absence. They cannot ask for retroactive evidence. You are not required to give your principal details of your medical condition, and there is no need to complete a Leave of Absence form.Read more

  • Snow Day

    Snow in Surrey seems to have become a more common occurrence over the past few years. Board policy 5207.2 defines snow removal procedures. In a nutshell, plowing will occur when there is more than 6 inches of snow. Grounds crew and contractors are dispersed in each zone in a prioritized order. Schools with physically disabled students and/or no daytime janitorial staff are the highest priority. Each school should have de-icer pellets and snow shovels.Read more

    Many teachers find supportive, understanding colleagues at their schools, and to help support and formalize those relationships, the STA and the School district sponsor a Teacher Mentorship Program. Read more

    Teachers may from time to time in their career find themselves struggling—with new grades/subjects, extremely challenging students, personal health issues, etc. There is help available to teachers if they feel they need some extra support.Read more

    The Surrey Teachers’ Association has been in existence since 1941 and is a union of professionals representing 5800+ public school teachers in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. Read more

  • Table Officers

    The Executive Committee is made up of 20 teachers. There are 12 members who volunteer many hours in their roles as Local Representatives to the BCTF (6), Members-At-Large (4), Secretary-Treasurer (1) and the TTOC Representative (1). Additionally, there are 8 Full-Time Officers, who work tirelessly to support the 5800+ members in Surrey. Read more
