Our members experience a range of life events, from celebrating births to facing tragedies, illnesses, injuries, and the loss of loved ones. In response, the STA has offered flowers, fruit baskets, or donations whenever we learn of such celebrations or hardships.

To request Sunshine Funds, we ask that Staff Representatives at each school site contact the STA using the Sunshine Fund Request Form. Our goal is to support our members during times of need.

The Sunshine Fund Spending Guidelines

The recognition guidelines include

    • Injury at work (hospital stay):  up to $75 to be issued by the STA as a gift card or charitable donation
    • Maternity/paternity/extended medical leave: up to $75 to be issued by the STA as a gift card or charitable donation
    • Death of an active member: up to $75 to be issued by the STA as a gift card or charitable donation
    • Death of an active member’s spouse/child: up to $75 to be issued by the STA as a gift card or charitable donation

Guidelines for Hosting Events After Traumatic Incidents

The guidelines for hosting events for staff following traumatic incidents involving staff members (such as a death) are set at a maximum of $10 per STA member of the staff.
