As school staff committees and staff reps consider bell schedules and prep schedules for next year, they should keep in mind that prep periods will normally be allocated in at least 30-minute periods.

The relevant clause is:

D.4.7.b *b. Normally, such time shall be allocated in blocks of thirty (30) minutes duration but shall be no less than twenty (20) minutes duration.

Prep periods for all teachers (including teachers delivering prep) should not be scheduled in 20 minute periods except in abnormal circumstances. If the entitlement for the teacher delivering prep (teacher-librarian, Core Music, or Intermediate Prep teacher) is not sufficient in order to allocate ALL prep periods in at least 30 minute periods, the staff rep should discuss that matter with the principal.
