If you’re interested in combating racism within schools in Surrey, there are three options.

To become an Anti-Racism Lead at your school for the 2021-2022 school year, let your admin team know and fill in this short form. Anti-Racism School Leads will be supported in raising awareness of anti-racism in educational contexts, as well as developing and implementing Anti-Racism initiatives in their schools. This pilot project is based on the highly successful work of SOGI Leads in schools. Please contact Nicole Curtis at curtis_n@surreyschools.ca if you are interested in learning more.

To work on the BCTF and STA’s Anti-Racism projects and initiatives, connect with your schools Social Justice Representative. A few schools have taken their own grassroots actions such as forming a school-based Anti-Racism committee. If your school does not have an SJ representative, consider being a candidate to be elected into the role by STA members at your school’s next union meeting.

To join the STA Anti-Racism committee, submit a completed Curriculum Vitae Form to reception@surreyteachers.org.  You can also contact the committee chair, Gavin Slade-Kerr at hs@surreyschools.ca if you are interested in joining others in this important work.
