The STA has many committees where members serve their colleagues as they do work the union needs done, and provide the voice of teachers to the community in various areas.

Members at all stages of their careers have made major contributions through committee work.  We have committees that are concerned with internal union matters and we have committees working on service to colleagues’ professional development and rights.

We have a political committee, called Political Action Public Response (PAPR) which steers the STA’s work during provincial and municipal elections and prepares campaigns during bargaining time. We are also inspired to work in various social justice areas, and have committees that do work in these areas both within the union and in response to how these are concerns in the community. These committees often organize special events for members, students, and the community.

List of Committees

We have various types of committees: Standing Committees, Ad Hoc Committees and Steering Committees.

Ad Hoc committees are created by the executive committee from time to time in response to an emerging issue, and can continue as an ad hoc committee for several years as the issue persists, or can be converted to a standing committee by an AGM as the committee and the executive recommends.
