To Shine a Light on it Conference

It’s that time of year again for the STA’s Aboriginal Education Committee to proudly present it’s 3rd Annual Yus᥆lthut “To Shine a Light On It” Conference. The conference takes place during the November 9th professional development day at Queen Elizabeth Secondary (9457 King George Blvd) from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.
This conference is open to all educators and FREE for teachers! The day will begin with a traditional grand entry, followed by a traditional welcoming/witnessing and a keynote on “Settler-Indigenous Relations Today” by UBC professor Dr. Bruce Miller. Christy Jordan-Fenton and Margaret Pokiak-Fenton, authors of Fatty Legs, My Girl, A Stranger At Home, and When I Was Eight, are also special guests who will presenting on this day. The rest of the day will be filled with tons of workshops, including cedar weaving, Indigenous medicine bags and beading, Secret Path, Project of Heart, Semiahmoo history and governance, residential schools, sixties scoop, science and the first people principles of learning, infusing Aboriginal content, and more! Delicious food, including authentic bannock and salmon, will be served.
