Date: January 24, 2011

Semester 2 consultations secondary schools – Secondary School Staff Reps, directions are attached for the semester 2 consultation process. Please ensure that teachers have access to the consultation directions and forms. Release time is available for staff reps to assist with the process. Please contact our office if you need advice or support.

Bill 33 Information Request Granted – The STA and the School District requested arbitrator James Dorsey to assist us in resolving a dispute over access to the information provided to teachers during the consultation process. In instances where teachers disagreed with the class, we have been awarded access to the information. This information is crucial to processing our grievances as it outlines the educational program needs of the students in the class.

General Meeting
a) Location – Due to conference centre closure, the general meeting on January 26th, will be at the Grand Taj Banquet Hall, located at 8388 – 128 Street, Surrey. Be sure someone from your school attends as important bargaining decisions will be made.
b) Not too late to be a delegate – If you are interested in being a delegate to the BCTF AGM, you can still put your name forward by sending it to us before the meeting or being nominated from the floor.
c) Extended Day – The Executive is recommending to the General meeting the STA oppose extended days at seven Surrey high schools. We encourage members to come to the meeting to express their views. Principals and Vice Principals call for an end to FSA – Well… it is not without controversy, but the BC Principals and Vice Principals Association has called for an end to the FSA. The Minister has dug in her heals but at least two potential liberal leaders support scrapping the test too. http://www.vancouversun.com/principals+call+controversial+testing/4136881/story.html
