Monday Memo – April 11, 2011

MEMO TO: Staff Reps

COPIES TO: STA Executive Committee

FROM: Denise Moffatt, President

Date: April 11, 2011

The Advocate at: www.surreyteachers.org/documents/The-Adovcate/110407.pdf

Shortage of TOCs – The STA is concerned about reports of Teacher on Call shortages. These reports have increased over the last few months and shortages appear to be an ongoing problem. In particular we are concerned about the reduction in service to students and the impact of these disruptions on student learning and on teachers. Although it is important not to have too many TOCs on the list, it is necessary to have a sufficient number such that the average number of absences are filled. To examine the impact of TOC shortages on schools, we are asking staff reps to track absences for one month. Specifically, we would like to know who is covering the absences and whether or not any lost service is being made up. Please use the attached form and return it to the STA via courier #000 by May 15.
