Marking in the Malls

Surrey and Langley teachers will be doing their marking in public at four locations between 3:30 – 5:30 pm on Monday, January 23rd.

The locations are:
Semiahmoo Shopping Centre – 1701 – 152 Street, Surrey
Guildford Town Centre – 152 Street and 104 Avenue, Surrey
Surrey Central City Shopping Centre – 10153 King George Boulevard, Surrey
Willowbrook Shopping Centre – 19677 Willowbrook Drive, Langley

This is an opportunity for the public, especially those who may not have a direct connection to the system, to meet a classroom teacher and find out what’s happening in schools.

“Teachers have been waiting nearly ten years for a resolution to the illegal contract stripping that removed class size composition and specialist teacher ratios from collective agreements,” said Gail Chaddock-Costello, President of the Langley Teachers’ Association. “Now we have been waiting almost eleven months for a negotiated settlement. Teachers and students shouldn’t have to wait any longer.”

“Teachers make a difference in classrooms every day,” said Denise Moffatt, President of the Surrey Teachers’ Association. “All we are asking for is to be treated respectfully by our employer and government. It is time teachers got a fair deal,” said Moffatt.
