Dear Staff Reps,

PLEASE FORWARD TO YOUR STAFF

The Surrey Teachers’ Association would like to take the opportunity to recognize International Men’s Day.  International Men’s Day (IMD) is an annual event celebrated on November 19th. Inaugurated in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago, the day and its events find support in many countries including Australia, the Caribbean, North America, Asia, Europe, Africa, and is supported by the United Nations.

Every year a new theme is chosen for International Men’s Day. This year the theme is “Our Children – Our Future”.

International Men’s Day Celebration – November 20th,

1:00-5:00 pm, at the Roundhouse Community Centre, Vancouver

This is Vancouver’s first public celebration of International Men’s Day. Men, women and families are warmly welcome. The event will begin with an introduction to men’s day, a proclamation from the City of Vancouver, and several speakers and entertainers. Then everyone is welcome to mingle and meet the numerous participating organizations who will be sharing information and inviting participation in diverse ways. There will be games to play, food, fun, and creative opportunities to add your opinions and ideas into the mix!!

This event celebrates men’s positive contributions, offers information about issues facing boys and men, and a chance to meet a diverse number of organizations in the community that are working to support the needs of boys, men and families. Come out and help us celebrate!  For full events details visit: www.international-mens-day.com/Canada.php

Also occurring this month is “Movember” – a worldwide moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for men’s health, one of the key themes promoted on International Men’s Day. For more information, go to the official “Movember” website http://ca.movember.com/

This Friday, please take a moment to reflect on the important contribution that men make to the teaching profession and ways that we, as teachers, can better support male learners.
