Bargaining Ratification Vote – September 18th, 2014

Ratification Vote Details
The STA Executive Committee had a thorough discussion about how we might conduct the ratification vote and also allow for information to be shared around what the tentative agreement includes. It was decided that there not be an advanced poll tomorrow, as details of the plan have not yet been release (beyond media speculation).

Instead, the STA Executive decided that we have three study sessions, with voting to follow each session, on Thursday, September 18th. This will allow for a smaller venue to be used (the Agriplex is still under renovations) and will also give time for members to review the tentative agreement ahead of the study session. Picketing will continue on Thursday. Members reminded not to enter schools.

The study sessions will be held at the Bombay Banquet Hall. There is not sufficient space inside of the venue, or enough parking, for all members to attend one session. For this reason, we are recommending that members attend study sessions and vote based on last name, with each session dedicated to one third of the alphabet. We recognize that this isn’t ideal, but with 5000+ members, limited time, and a smaller venue, this was the easiest method for making the vote run smoothly.

All members are strongly encouraged to attend the study session that is assigned to their last name. If the tentative agreement is ratified, it will become our new collective agreement, so it is very important that we all make an informed vote.
