About

The Surrey Teachers’ Association has been in existence since 1941 and is a union of professionals representing approximately 5000 public school teachers in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.  All public school teachers in Surrey belong to the BCTF (British Columbia Teachers’ Federation) and their local teachers’ association.

OBJECTIVES/PRINCIPLES

The objectives of the Surrey Teachers’ Association are:

  1. To promote the welfare of members
  2. To foster and promote the cause of education
  3. To promote the professional development of teachers, and
  4. To represent its members and to regulate relations with their employer through collective bargaining of terms and conditions of employment.

The Surrey Teachers’ Association recognizes that all members need to be involved in pursuing these objectives in order to seek needed improvements to the working and learning conditions in our school communitie

UNION STRUCTURE

The Surrey Teachers’ Association works closely with the BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF). The BCTF was established in 1917 and is the union of professionals representing 41,000 public school teachers in the province of British Columbia.  All public school teachers belong to the BCTF and their local teachers association. BC teachers voted to join the Canadian Labour Congress and maintain membership in the BC Federation of Labour.
